Organized Hording

Written by YMPowe

One of the best practices that will lead to academic success is hording.  I know what you are thinking.  Hording has negative connotations attached to it, such as, disorder.  When one hordes, one is massing and retaining a noun (person, place, thing, or idea) of some sort.

Hording will ensure that one will always have evidence of his or her academic performance.

It is simple to horde.  I suggest that you find an appropriate storage container for your living space: a cardboard box, plastic box, large paper bags, etc.

Then, as the school term flows along, simply place your course outlines, course syllabi, graded assignments, examinations, report cards, and transcripts within your chosen storage container.

When you graduate and you have your diploma, certificate, or degree in your hands, then you can place the contents of your storage containers in the nearest recycling bin.

If one is an undergraduate and planning to attend graduate school, I suggest that you keep your undergraduate hording storage container and start a new one for your graduate work.  Why?

 (1) There could be something (a project, a report, a margin note) in one’s undergraduate work, that will advantage one’s graduate work.

(2) Not all post-secondary institutions are equal.  Students may need to prove that the coursework that they completed as an undergraduate corresponds with the rigor of the curriculum of the institution that one is seeking graduate admittance.

Also, (3) if one is seeking to transfer ones undergraduate matriculation to another post-secondary institution, course articulation is at the forefront of transferable course work.

The evidence of rigor, articulation, transferability may be found within one’s academic organized horde.

For example, consider if one passes a course titled Introduction to Critical Thinking and Application at one post-secondary institution.

Then, if one transfers to another post-secondary institution to complete his or her undergraduate degree, but now has to take a course titled Critical Thinking and Purpose, one could attempt to prove that the course requirement was met at another post-secondary institution.

Why is this important?  (1)  One will not have to take essentially the same course twice, (2) it saves time and provides space to take other required course, and (3) it saves money by eliminating having to pay for essentially the same class twice.

The process of hording is not complicated.  The process is referred to as organized hording and not as organizing to indicate that the process of storing one’s proof of academic performance need not be time consuming.  Just compile one's documents for convenient storage and retrieval.

Consider the case studies provided on this website regarding the outcomes of organized hording.
