California’s State Government prohibits some College and Universities from providing Cal Grants
Did you know that “154 schools—comprising 35 percent of all institutions and more than 80 percent of for–profit schools participating in the Cal Grant programs in recent years—have been deemed Cal Grant–ineligible”?
Many factors determine your financial aid eligibility.  Your academic grades are an important factor.  The better your grades, the more financial aid opportunities you may have.
The State Government grades colleges and universities on the graduation success and education loan repayment rate of their students. Colleges and Universities that have high student loan default rates and low student graduation rates are no longer eligible to offer Cal Grants to students.
Remember, a grant is like free money; you do not have to pay back grant funds.  Grants can significantly reduce your overall college tuition expense.  Many of the colleges and universities that are Cal Grant ineligible tuition is approximately four times higher than not-for-profit colleges and universities.
When researching a college or university, ask the admission and financial aid advisor what state educational grants are available at that institution of higher education.
For more information and/or for a list of colleges and universities that are currently prohibited from or permitted to offer Cal Grants, access the California Student Aid Commission’s website at http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/ineligible_cal_grant_schools.pdf.
